My EAM3200S goes wrong infrequently - and every time it does I have to re-scour the web for these details. (It might have been easier to find them each time if they weren't from a German site in German.)
Test modes and reset combinations are in the below, which comes from http://www.kaffee-welt.net/index.php/Thread/1087-DeLonghi-Reparatur-und-Wartung-Sammelthread-zur-ersten-Hilfe/ , translated via Google at http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=de&u=http://www.kaffee-welt.net/index.php/Thread/1087-DeLonghi-Reparatur-und-Wartung-Sammelthread-zur-ersten-Hilfe/%3Fs%3Df2e07e7fb1488382bea0fb66d6538b502ce00a2f&usg=ALkJrhgzhPuTdNVmCtVNN7ByjXdhfcVeng

This thread is to give a first overview for self-help in repairing a DeLonghi-VA. The following information are currently available:
1. Information for descaling
2. How can you retrieve the references when DeLonghi VAs?
3. test modes to the first failure diagnosis
4. display and key test
5. Resets
1. Information for descaling:
A KVA must be descaled regularly. The DeLonghi-VA of the hardness of the tap water must be adjusted so that the machine asks regularly for timely descaling.
-What Is a hardness range?
Water is divided ° dH (= degree of German hardness) in different degrees of hardness with the unit. This classification describes, roughly speaking, the dissolved in water ions of alkaline earth metals. The individual degrees of hardness are often divided for ease in 4 different hardnesses:
Hardness 1 = hardness range 1 = less than 7 ° dH
Hardness 2 = hardness range 2 = 7 ° - 14 ° dH
Hardness 3 = hardness range 3 = 14 ° - 21 ° dH
Hardness 4 = hardness range 4 = over 21 ° dH
Since May 2007 a further simplified subdivision applies:
soft = less than 8.4 ° dH
medium = 8.4 14 ° dH
hard = more than 14 ° dH
DeLonghi working at his machine with the above 4 hardness ranges. The appropriate range of hardness must be set in the machine. One need not even use the machine enclosed gauge strip whose inaccurate application very quickly leads to errors. Easy does it, if you call the local water utility or on the website looking at the water analysis.
-In What my hardness DeLonghi-VA wants to be when decalcified?
The request descaling is issued at certain intervals, or after a certain amount of water. Specifically, this means:
Hardness 4 (very hard) - - -> for each 40 liters
Hardness 3 - - -> for each 70 l
Hardness 2 - - -> for each 130 l
Hardness 1 (very soft) - - -> for each 250 l
Note: Use only in terms of steam these values in half, as the steam heating system seems to be more sensitive to lime.
- Can I decalcify with citric acid?
Yes, in principle, yes, but only with the devices called "ESAM", because the stainless steel waterways are not attacked in the heating block by the ZS. The situation is different in the "EAM" of devices, which can enforce the ZS aluminum Theroblock strong.
A further disadvantage of citric acid: The lime is only partly dissolved, not dissolved. This may have the consequence that Kalkbröckchen lines and valves could clog! If you want to descale sure who would rather elect a descaler amidosulphonic basis.
2. How can you retrieve the references when DeLonghi VAs?
It's always very interesting to see how many coffee has been related with its fully automatic. In DeLonghi this interest is very large, because the 3-year warranty is limited to 5000 cups. One could see the number of prepared cups, would have also an estimate of how long it still has warranty on the device. The covers can be retrieved at many DeLonghi devices only with a trick.

You are a legend :-)
Jon
absolutely useful. thank you!!!
dear all
thank you for this information.
do you know how to test grinding in ESAM4400? grinder is on according to test mentionned above but how to test if the grinder works?
many thanks
David
good evening all, i have an esam 4000, its been put through a descale mode (flowing the instructions) and now i have three constant lights the one cup the two cup and the red warning triangle. Ive tryed every thing i can thibk of to try an reset it but nothing works. Ive it in to test mode and can get the pump to work, grinder to grind but cannot get the brew group to move up or down. Ive had the brew group apart and cleaned an lubed as well as the uper brew piston. But still cannot seem to get anything to happen. its as if the motors burnt out.
Any ideas what to try?
There's no "all" here - just "one". You're in *very slight* luck though, because I can tell you that I also thought the the motor was dead in my machine at one point: it didn't seem to try to move and resetting didn't do anything. I'd tried many times. Seem to recall winding the head up and down the shaft a bit by hand to see if it would start in a different position, but no dice as they say.
Anyway, I ended up leaving the machine a week or something while deciding if I was going to order a new motor, and when I gave it another try, it recovered! So I can at least offer you a little hope from the knowledge that, at least once, a machine has recovered from the state yours seems to be in!
Can i ask what you done to reset i? as ive tryed a few diffrent ways but nothing seems to have worked?
Sorry - don't really recall. It would have been either just turn it on - because of course it normally tries to reset the position automatically if it's been turned off in the wrong spot - or else it would have been one of the reset sequences from the above text. (Like 1-cup + 2-cup button during application of power or something.)
FYI, the 3 lights you describe doesn't seem to be a documented error condition. (I was looking at https://www.delonghi.com/Global/InstructionManuals/EN/EN-ESAM%204000.B-instruction%20manual.pdf ) Could it be that the 1-cup + 2-cup lights are just normal indication that the machine is ready / warmed up, and the error is indicated by a steady hazard light? (Even then, I can't see that as a documented code...)
I can only suggest that you make sure the front side of the machine is free of coffee grounds and that the microswitches that are supposed to be activated by having the coffee-grounds container inside and the door shut are activating correctly. (I had to return my second machine because the tab that activates the door microswitch was already bent when I got it.)
dear all
I have ESAM 4400, I have cleaned the grinder to have a better coffee, unfortunaletly when I tried to turn it back on, I have a message "fill the coffee tank", when it is already full of coffee beans.
I thought the grinder was down, but I have tried it directly plugged on the 220V and it wrinds well.
any idea why this message? is the other board not sending the message anymore?
thanks
David
I have virtually completely rebuilt my DeLonghi ESAM5500 with new parts. Not an economically good thing to do, but fun.
Is there any way to reset the statistics so they will reflect the essentially new condition of the machine?
If you've already tried a hard reset, I'm afraid I've no further ideas.
I have not tried the reset and I hate to show my ignorance, but referencing the below instructions,I don't know what button 5 is of the three buttons nor do I know what "From the start of Brühgruppenfahrt" means.
I really appreciate your help!
. Disconnect the mains plug
2. Press and hold all three buttons (single reference + double reference + steam)
3. Insert the power plug
4. The brewing group is positioning itself
Release buttons 5. After about 5 sec. From the start of Brühgruppenfahrt
hello everyone,
i have a primadonna s evo (ecam 510.55M) it doesn't work at all and it only displays
GENERAL ALARM ! ANY RESET FOR IT? I cleaned the machine with no help..
please advice what to do... it's out of warranty :(
Hello All, Hoping to get some help on a "Less Coffee" error message on Magnifica ESAM 4400. I cleaned and lubricated the infuser, but still get an error. The machine goes into grind mode, the infuser goes up, but then it waits and then gives the error message. When there is coffee in the grinder, it just stays dry and then goes into the bin...A hint for the problem maybe that the grinder keeps working even on empty. Before it used to give a "Fill beans" message if it ran on empty. Any ideas on what else to do?
Hi all, I have a 3200. Yesterday it turned itself off, but now it won't turn on via on/off button.
If I unplug and plug it back in all lights come on briefly and infuser moves, but nothing else.
Tried pressing different combinations of buttons when plugging in, but just does the same.
I have a ESAM 5400. What is the way to get diagnostic test mode for the 5400 and how to run the tests?
My 5400 grinder stays on a long time (40 seconds for a single shot) and I'm trying to determine if its an issue with the Hall sensor or something else.
Thanks in advance.
This site helped me a few months ago, so thank you.
I have since found the official reset document from the service company.
https://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/82317/DE%60LONGHI_Resetten%20delonghi%20printen.html
goto VIEW ONLINE, and the last page of the pdf is english.
It's on eServiceInfo, this link is an info page with view-online/download but you will also find the user manuals and some schematics if you use the search. No registration needed, woohoo...
Did you get a fix for this please? I have the same issue.
I am trying to get in to test mode on de'longhi magnifica ecam290.22.b any help appreciated
